Bloomberg: Orange interested in buying Bouygues Telecom

While the landscape of
mobile operators were established with three major players in France, the arrival of
Free in mobile in 2012 shook up a situation that seemed rather
purring. Since then, this presence of four actors seems destined to
instability, as if a physical force (or financial rather...) brought back
inexorably to a landscape with three actors.

In this poker game, it is difficult to know who will win the bet, but one
one thing is certain, it seems thatit is Bouygues which is destined to
to redeem
one day or another from now on. After rumors
of interest on the part of Free, then especially after havingmanaged to
repel the assaults of Numericable
, the mobile subsidiary of Bouygues
would now interest Orange! In any case, that's what we think we know
the American Bloomberg:

According to
their information
, Orange is currently in discussions for
the purchase of Bouygues Telecom and media activities. This therefore concerns the
telecom part, but also TF1, TMC, NT1, etc. If a buyout was concluded,
it would go through the session of the majority of shares in the conglomerate
telecom and media by the parent company of Bouygues, which would then refocus on
construction.

According to the three people who confided, the discussions do not
would only be at a preliminary stage
. Among many subjects, they
would relate in particular to the means of avoiding a blocking of the sale by
the competition authority.

The American site naturally contacted the two actors.Bouygues
has since stated,
by press release
, wanting to maintain one's autonomy
and Orange, from its
side, does not wish to comment on this type of recurring rumors.

We can easily imagine that in the current context and landscape,
this type of discussion between operators takes place very
regularly
. But there is no smoke without fire and we will have to see
if these discussions prove fruitful, if Orange could be
purchaser of the entire media part or only the telecommunications part
and if this can result in a real acceptable offer in terms of
concurrence.

The question is now less whether the French telecom landscape will
concentrate on three actors who knowthe date on which this
will happen
and who will take the other!

We have also seen recently and again today aforte
pressure on subscription prices without commitment
, with
increasingly aggressive “Christmas” offers
opponentFree,
SFR
etOrange
via sa branch Sosh
in a real battle to conquer
of subscribers. In parallel,Bouygues
remained rather behind
.

What do you think of such a rapprochement?
