Personal computers: Apple marks the return of the king

Following the coronavirus pandemic and the devastating effects of inflation, sales of personal computers have particularly dried up. After a while, even Macs, although in good shape in this area, will also end up losing their splendor. But the latest market studies as well as Apple's financial results for the third quarter of 2023 have just brought this terrible episode to a close.

Unsurprisingly, analysts assume that the MacBook Air and the iMac are the Apple firm's best-selling models. The all-in-one has just beenrenewed, with always the same screen size despite theassumptionof another, larger edition in preparation. The Mac mini remains, for its part, the most affordable of the collection. But without a screen on board.

Meet public expectations

The most observant will also note that Apple has recently been able to adapt even more to user needs. While AirPods, for example, are still only available in white, there are now multiple colors for MacBook Airs and iMacs. Power cables have also been improved like this, up to the MacBook Pros announced a few weeks ago.

With this, Apple has drastically reduced the size/screen ratio of its laptops. The cutting of the front camera is even required, although the transition to face recognition for biometric unlocking is still pending. Until then, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor will do the trick. The Touch Bar, little used by developers, has also simply disappeared from the Cupertino catalog. The last to be equipped with it was the most affordable MacBook Pro M2, with a diagonal of 13 inches.

The monopoly is behind the hill

Despite these many successes, however, remember that Macs are still not the best-selling computer brand in the world – although their name obtains the best satisfaction rate in the sector. Lenovo, HP or Dell regularly present themselves as the most popular – including in Europe. The fault, probably, is a price positioning well beyond the competition, at Tim Cook's company.

iPhones, however, sometimes top global sales. As for AirPods and Apple Watch, these are respectively the best-selling wireless headphones and watches (connected or not) on the planet.
