The iPhone 6s as well as older models
use LCD screens, and although Apple is consideringl’OLED
as the next display technology, this is not about to change everything
suite.
Indeed, according to the newspaperNikkei Asian Review, Apple
plans to change screen technology for iPhonesfrom
2018. The Californian firm would then move from an LCD display to a
improved OLED display. The Apple Watch is currently the only
product in its range to use an OLED display:
OLED technology has several advantages over LCD such as
better contrast levelsor even one
lower energy consumption.
Nikkei Asian Reviewclaims that Apple would have communicated to
its subcontractors its desire to migrate its screens from LCD to OLED in 2018, but
notes that a mix of iPhones with LCD and OLED screens is expected due to a
limited production capacity for OLED displays at the moment.
Still according to the Nikkei report, Apple is studying the issue of
longevity of the OLED screen over time compared to LCD, before taking a
final decision by 2018.
Currently, the two main OLED screen suppliers,Samsung
and LG, are well placed to supply the Californian firm with screens
OLED pour iPhone.
On the other hand, this change in technology will be difficult to manage for
Current iPhone LCD display suppliers Sharp and Japan
Display, moreover, the value of their titlefell on the stock market
after the article was published by the Nikkei Asian Review.
According to this report, it is therefore very likely thatthe iPhone 7 does not
will not offer new screen technology.
