A cable that is too thin makes some MacBook Pros prone to “light streaks” at the bottom of the screen

After the still unresolved problem with the MacBook Pro “butterfly” keyboards, which led Apple to launch afree repair programvalid for several years, here is a new concern.

Some MacBook Pro userscomplain about “streaks of light“, at the bottom of the screen. The latter would be caused by the use ofcables too thin.

As we can see in the photo below, some users encounter a problem with “streaks of light” at the bottom of their screen. This is a symptom ofcable damageinside the MacBook Pro.

According to iFixit specialists, this problem only affects certainRecent MacBook Pros from 2016 to now.

The cause would be the use by Apple in these machinescables that are too thinto connect the screen to a controller located below the Touch Bar. Whereas in older MacBook Pros, Apple used thicker and more durable cables.

As you open and close the MacBook Pro, these cables would begin to fatigue, eventually tearing. The first cable to be affected would bethe one responsible for the backlight, which would result in these “light trails”.

Replacing such a cable should cost $6 according to iFixit, however the design of the MacBook Pro makes repairs complicated or impossible in some cases.

As a result, the operation of replacing these cables could become a $600 ordeal with Apple's repair services.

However, it appears that this problem affectsa small number of users.

Have you encountered this problem with your MacBook Pro?
