Early last week, Qualcomm obtained from a Chinese court,a ban on the sale of iPhones in China. In question are all models ranging from the iPhone 6s to the iPhone X. They would infringe two Qualcomm patents.
After a first victory in China, Qualcomm is now “successfully” trying the same methodin Germany. A German court ruled thatsome iPhone models infringe a hardware patentthe Qualcomm.
This judgment will not be applied immediately, to give Apple time to appeal, which is certain to happen.
According to this judgment, certain iPhone models incorporatinga combination of chipsfrom two suppliers, Intel and Qorvoa, whichinfringe a Qualcomm patent.
This covers a method for preserving the iPhone's battery when the device sends and receives wireless signals.
Since last year, Apple has been in conflict with Qualcomm, the famous American supplier of wireless communication chips for mobile phones. The Cupertino companyhad started hostilitiesby complaining about anti-competitive practices and particularly high prices for the use of patents belonging to Qualcomm.
Qualcomm seems to have found for the moment, a strategy which is bearing fruit and which is causing a lot of problems for Apple. The Cupertino company was even forced to “urgently” publish the iOS 12.1.2 version, in order to integratechanges for Chinese users.
