Since last year, Apple has beenin conflict with Qualcomm, the famous American supplier of wireless communication chips for mobile. The Cupertino company complains of anti-competitive practices and particularly high prices for the use of patents belonging to Qualcomm.
At the same time as this trial, in another case linked to the iPhone, Qualcomm has just obtained from a Chinese court, aban on the sale of certain iPhone models in China.
More specifically, Qualcomm has obtained a ban on the import and sale in China of modelsranging from iPhone 6s to iPhone X.
These models would infringe two Qalcomm patents. The Chinese court ruled in favor of Qualcomm in this case which has no connection with the main legal conflict between the two giants.
Apple quickly responded that all iPhone modelsremain available to users in China. Before this ban takes effect, Applewill appealof this decision.
This ban does not apply to the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, nor to iPhones running iOS 12.
We imagine that Qualcomm could use this decision in its favor, to negotiate within the framework of the main conflict between the two companies.
