In 2023, macOSwent to version 14. It is during theWWDC June 2023that we got a taste of what's new for this major Mac system update. But who says new version number potentially means no longer supported machines. Let's see together which machines can or cannot install macOS Sonoma.
Which Macs support macOS Sonoma?
Here is the official list of Macs that can install macOS Sonoma:
- iMac from 2019 and newer
- iMac Pro from 2017 and newer
- Mac Pro 2019 and newer
- Mac mini from 2018 and newer
- MacBook Air from 2018 and newer
- MacBook Pro from 2018 and newer
- Mac Studio 2022 and newer
- All new machines introduced in 2023 and beyond
macOS Ventura has been pretty harsh on older machines. The software has in fact left several computers on the bench even though they are compatible with the previous macOS Monterey. So MacBook 2016, MacBook Air 2015, Macbook Pro 2015, MacBook Pro 2016, Mac mini 2014, iMac 2015 and Mac Pro 2013 couldn't keep up with macOS last year. macOS Ventura is therefore not compatible with any machine released in 2016 or before.
macOS Sonoma continues the drought by putting aside all 2017 MacBooks (MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13″/15″), as well as iMacs released between 2015 and 2017. Only one pre-2018 survivor remains , it's the iMac Pro from 2017. This one couldknow with Sonoma its latest major macOS update.
