CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners) has just unveiled a new study. This teaches us thatif Samsung is the leader in mobile sales, its share of “flagships” sold turns out to be slimmer than at Apple. Indeed, Cupertino, with 33% market share in the United States, would sell 64% of standard bearers – compared to 42% for the Korean. On the other hand, the latter has no less than 38% market share with Uncle Sam. However, we know that, there, iPhones are selling like hotcakes. It must be said that the jammed telephone is at home here. The creators of his brand, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, filed the statutes in Los Altos (CA) in 1976.
These results are not, however, the most surprising, since we already knew that theiPhone SEare not as popular as Apple's premium models. However, it is only the latter that CIRP considers as “flagships”. More precisely, the firm classifies the fouriPhone 15and the four iPhone 14s. On Samsung's side, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are affected. The last two are folding mobiles, with a price of almost two thousand euros for the Fold 5 available at the moment.
The diversity of the collections involved?
At Samsung, this major difference could be explained by an increase in more affordable smartphones in recent years. At the moment, among those which are most appealing to the general public, we can notably cite the case ofGalaxy A55. The device has a magnificent screen despite its price limited to only 499 euros, but our colleagues fromPresse-citron.netwho were able to test the smartphone judge its autonomy to be “mediocre”. The camera, on the other hand, does not offer high quality results. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S24 or the iPhone 15 Pro are often praised by critics, on the contrary, for their successful shots.
Still at Samsung, theGalaxy A35also seems to be emulated with its large 6.6-inch screen and still 390 pixels per inch of density. The front glass from Corning also protects the screen. The device is powered by six to twelve gigabytes of RAM, and has a forty-eight megapixel wide-angle rear camera. But the 5G version officially costs only 369 euros, much less than Apple's “flagships”.The Samsung Galaxy S24is also much more expensive, with at least 829 euros on the clock for the basic version (with 128 GB of internal storage).
A trend that could one day be reversed
Apple is probably aware of these figures, and would also try to differentiate the ranges more and more to reach a maximum audience. Since 2020, let's also remember that the iPhone SE is back in Europe and across the Atlantic, undoubtedly ready to have a fourth generation no later than next year. The iPhone 13 also continues to appeal with lower prices, which further prevents the manufacturer from having to design truly entry-level mobiles.
But Tim Cook's company is changing since the CEO succeeded Steve Jobs. This places emphasis on confidentiality or recycling, and recently revealed the RAM of its tablets for the first time. The press thus benefits from face-to-face interviews with group executives, which seemed impossible in the past. It is also rumored that a folding iPhone is indeed in the pipeline. All this leads us to believe that, within a few years, the number of iPhone collections will have increased significantly. It is of course not possible to be certain at this time, especially since Apple does not really stoop to producing hardwarelow cost. But, who knows?
- Samsung sells less thanflagshipsthat Apple
- Apple could offer more iPhone collections one day
- This could be the sign of the arrival of a more affordable iPhone, but nothing is less certain
