Apple is launching a major cleaning of the apps available on the App Store!

A few years ago Apple communicated
proudly about the number of applications available on the App Store, but
it has grown so much over the years that this count is no longer really
significant. Indeed, among the nearly 2 million applications that it
contains, how many do not havenot been updated for years
years
, how many no longer launch and crash or no longer display
nothing due to lack of maintained server?

This phenomenon is not new but it grows every year and corresponds
at a stage of maturity. Over the years, developers and publishers who are
moved on and left their app in the store.

But Apple has just tackled this problem and launcheda big one
cleaning
!

Developers registered in Apple's program received an email
indicating that all applications present on the firm's store
would be subject to arevue. This will start on
September 7,
day of the iPhone 7 conference
and will aim to identify applications
who do not (no longer) provide the advertised service, do not follow the criteria
Apple's current verification standards or are clearly outdated.

We can thus imagine that the applications whichplant,
but also those which remained adapted to the only 3.5 inch screen of
the iPhone 4 for example, or others which display a "pre iOS 7" design will be
the first targets.

The developers concerned will then becontacted by Apple
and will have30 days to update their app, before she
is not removed from the App Store (they will of course remain usable by
those who already have it on their machine). For the specific case of applications
which crash directly at launch, they will be removed directly, without
wait 30 days.

While a recent report pointed to acrash rate
apps more important now on iOS than on Android
, it is possible that
this served as a trigger for Apple to do a big fall cleaning of the App
Store.

At the same time, Apple also announced thatnames of
applications would now be restricted to a maximum of 50
characters
. This involves chasing away applications that use
very long descriptions instead of the name of the app to be better
referenced. An increasing trend had indeed affected the App Store
in recent years.
