iPhone 12: 5G mmWave for all models?

In recent months, we have been able to read various rumors about the arrival of 5G on the next iPhone 12. At this stage, there is frankly no longer any real doubt about the fact that all the models in the new range of Apple smartphones will feature a 5G modem. On the other hand, there are still questions about 5G mmWave. This 5G technology is the opposite of 5G sub-6 GHz, a sort of “lite” 5G, slower.

5G mmWave can be considered as true 5G, i.e. mobile internet connection technology which will enable an impressive increase in surfing speed (up to 5 Gb/s of theoretical download speed) compared to 4G.

The iPhone 12 should benefit from 5G mmWave. But analysts and informants could not agree on which model(s) of new generation iPhone would be without it. And while Fast Companyonly saw the iPhone 12 Pro Max equipped with 5G mmWave, Ming-Chi Kuo reported a few hours ago thatall models from this end of 2020would support both 5G mmWave and 5G sub-6 GHz.

And even if in France, we could not necessarily benefit from the mmWave version at the launch of the 5G deployment, having an iPhone 12 supporting the technology would still be interesting. Because in other countries in the world, such as in the United States, the democratization of 5G mmWave should be much faster.

Thus, with an iPhone 12 supporting both types of 5G, we would in all cases benefit from the best connection speed available in the area where we are located. Without 5G mmWave, we could find ourselves restricted in certain countries.

Maybe we'll know more about this this evening, during Apple's back-to-school Keynoteto follow here by our side.
