During theWorldwide Developer Conference 2020, Apple presented the new version of its voice assistant released with the iPhone 4s: Siri. The first notable improvement concerns its appearance, since it now takes the form of a popup instead of a display occupying the entire screen. It is therefore much easier to use it by overlaying it on another app, which should encourage more Internet users to use it to carry out research on a task in progress.
For the moment, onlydeveloperscan however test this solution: in fact, it is only available iniOS 14the final edition of which for the general public will only be released by the fall. But competition from Alphabet, at the forefront in the field of AI on smartphones, still continues to rage.
Differences to be nuanced
The YouTube channelIn Depth Tech Reviewstook the time to confront Siri –whose engine comes from the work of several French people– and theGoogle Assistantof a Pixel 4XL for more than a dozen minutes to try to find out which of the two offered the relevant results. And as is often the case, Apple's algorithms are still lagging behind and have difficulty launching complex actions such as sharing an image on WhatsApp or remembering birthdays.
On the other hand, thesending voice messagesis indeed part of the iPhone 11 Pro Max put to the test here, as announced during the WWDC Special Event. It is therefore once again Mountain View which would emerge victorious from this duel, even if the stages would be interesting to repeat at home depending on everyone's habits.
