Siri (iOS 15) vs Google Assistant (Android 12): comparison

Siri is one of the main tools to benefit greatly from the latest iOS update. Announced during the Worldwide Developer Conference 2021, it includes several new features such as the possibility of reading notifications orally, local audio processing or even AI compatibility with third-party accessories .For the rest of the changes in this version, go to our dedicated summary.

Facing this solution favored by many iPhone users also stands the Google Assistant, delivered of course with Android devices but also accessories under Wear OS or TVs powered by the same publisher. The best products are found both among the range of this brand and on the Apple side, we can therefore logically wonder who offers the best voice control. And this is precisely what the channel wanted to testIn Depth Tech Reviewsin a new video shared on YouTube (in English).

Offline use

To begin with, you should know that the test in question was carried out using two very specific smartphones. The first is in fact an iPhone 12, which now uses the artificial intelligence engine Neural Engine of the proprietary Apple A14 Bionic processor in order to be able to run without requiring an Internet connection. Facing it is the Google Pixel 4a, which seems a little less efficient but also offers clear and complete responses without a nearby access point.

On the technical side, we don't really see any difference here. But it is clear that on a daily basis, choosing a phone equipped with the right components could be beneficial for those who use voice control most regularly. As for speakers such as those found at Nest or HomePod, they have their own characteristics to take into account.

Speed: little difference

In Depth Tech Reviewswas also able to measure the velocity of the Google Assistant and Siri, with a conclusion that does not change much from the previous duels. Thus, out of fourteen tasks, the choice of which obviously remains to be qualified, only two short seconds give the first the advantage over the second. A relatively negligible difference therefore, but which can swing the scales to one side or the other depending on the questions studied.

Despite everything, Siri would still have more difficulty remaining in a precise context during a conversation, whereGoogle Assistantis doing a little better. But iOS 15 is still only in beta, and it's a safe bet that its final version expected by the end of the year will be even more effective than today.
