A survey overwhelms the technical sheet of the iPhone 13 and the Series 7

Last August,a SellCell study reported that nearly half of iPhone users want to buy the next model. This will finally be announced on Tuesday September 14, but without much surprise and with few significant improvements. According to a new questionnaire, the number of consumers ready to upgrade to the new version would then have fallen to 23.3%: more than twenty points less.

Several reasons explain this decline:

  • the absence of Touch ID, for almost a third of respondents
  • the absence of a universal USB-C port (2.9%): still Lightning at the bottom of the iPhone
  • the absence of a 120 Hz screen on the cheapest models (5.7%)
  • my current iPhone works fine; no need to update it” (12,1%)
  • no major new functionality (19.5%)
  • no reverse wireless charging (2.1%)
  • no satellite communications (1.4%)
  • the iPhone 13 is too expensive (5.2%): 809 euros minimum for the iPhone 13 mini
  • 13 is a number that would bring bad luck (1.7%)
  • the notch is still present at the front (7.3%)
  • no Wi-Fi 6e (0.8%)
  • the different colors available (2.4%): pink, blue, midnight, starlight or red for the iPhone 13 or alpine blue, silver, gold and graphite for the Pro
  • no always-on screen (9.6%)

What you like about the iPhone 13

Let's now move on to the technical characteristics which - on the contrary - seem to encourage more than 1,000 respondents out of 3,000 to upgrade to the iPhone 13:

  • the ProMotion screen on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max (34.1%)
  • an improved camera (5.4%): with Cinematic mode and Photographic Styles
  • a more efficient A15 Bionic processor(2,6%)
  • a subscription with annual commitment or the Apple trade-in program (10.5%)
  • better battery life (25.3%): up to two and a half hours longer on the iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • storage up to 1TB for Pro models (3.2%)
  • new colors (1.1%)
  • reduced notch size (1.5%)
  • dual SIM support (0.6%): to benefit from two packages (e.g. professional and personal) on the same device
  • no particular reason (15.7%)

Little success for the new Apple Watch?

Finally, SellCell asked participants if they wanted to buy the Apple Watch Series 7, specifying among other things that it is equipped with a larger screen and fast charging. Only 7.5% of respondents answered yes, compared to 92.5% no. The wearable was already criticized just after its presentation, whendevelopers realized that its processor had simply not changed since Series 6.
