A Supremium subscription had been spotted by users in the code ofa beta version in October 2023, however, we learned today that it will probably not see the light of day, but probably for the benefit of something else.
The situation
It seems that Spotify did not appreciate this leak, because all the lines of code relating to this formula have since been deleted. The offer in question includedmore premium features, including the famoussuperior lossless audio formatthat some subscribers have been asking for for years.
Since this discovery, however, there has not been the shadow of an announcement from Spotify concerning these superior features, even though they are already present among the competition. Instead the company has meanwhile focused onother things, like audiobooks, adding clips to your application, orthe increase in its prices. This last factor was fatal for many subscribers, who said stop to Spotify and unsubscribed.
This was the case among long-time users, including journalists, which was not good publicity for the company.
A new subscription coming soon?
If the Supremium subscription is no longer relevant,it could be replaced by an “add-on”, called Music Pro, as discovered by a Reddit user. AppleInsider reports on this:
Music Pro is expected to include several features. Beyond the much-anticipated lossless audio, which supports FLAC files up to 24-bit/44.1kHz, Spotify may also be planning to integrate DJ remix features, allowing users to interact with tracks in new ways.
The code also refers tofilter options based on mood or gender, as well as other features, including AI playlists.
No date has been communicated regarding this additional module, which could possibly be added to an existing subscription. There is also a significant event to take into account, which is the quarterly meeting between Spotify and its investors. That of the first quarter of 2024 is scheduled to take place onApril 23. Perhaps after this assessment, announcements will be made.
