According to information from the press agencyReuters, Apple has started producing its iPhone 13 in India. The country is known for welcoming some of the Apple brand's subcontractors. About forty kilometers west of Chennai, in particular, is the town ofSriperumbudurwhere one of the STPIs is installed (Software Technology Parks of India) of the peninsula.
Several well-known companies have their premises on site, including Hyundai, Saint-Gobain, Nokia andFoxconn. The Taiwanese has an imposing factory there where chargers and mobiles are assembled. However, we do not know precisely which models will be designed there, given that Apple currently offers four for the latest generation high-end: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Strategic objectives
For Apple, having iPhone 13 manufactured in India represents above all a way of asserting itsindependencetowards China. It is in fact from the heart of the Middle Kingdom that most of its products come out, while it is regularly singled out forsecurity issuesor mass surveillance. Cupertino, on the contrary, likes to keep the practices of its workforce secret.
In India, the commercial framework seems more flexible but therisksare not absent however. We remember, for example, the scandal that occurred at the end of 2021, whenpremises belonging to Hon Hai had to cease their activity during an investigation by the local government. Employees worked there in deplorable conditions.
Other articles in the loop
According to the British media, theiPadcould also be produced on site. Here too the list of affected tablets remains unknown, but it could be a real advantage given the millions of potential customers living in India. Slow down delivery times allowing, in theory, to limit the shortage effect that other Apple products may have already experienced.
Some iPhones have already been assembled in India, such as iPhone 12 and iPhone XR, the iPhone 11 or even the secondiPhone SEreleased in 2020.
