StopCovid only sent 14 alerts in three weeks

It has now been more than three weeks since StopCovidis available. The government therefore decided to take stock yesterday to reveal the key figures for its contact tracing application. For the moment, the results are quite meager since there are 1.9 million downloads and 1.8 million activations. Worse, the app has since been uninstalled 460,000 times.

From an effectiveness perspective, the result is even more limited since 14 exposure notifications were sent in total. Finally, 68 people have reported positive tests on the tool since its launch.

“We don’t know if the number makes sense or not”

The Secretary of State for Digital, Cédric O, also admitted that he was surprised by these figures: “It's true that this number of notifications is quite low, we were quite surprised. We don't know if the figure of 14 notifications is logical or not. The only way to better understand how people interact with the application is to conduct field surveys.»

To restart the machine, the government plans to allow treating doctors to complete the declaration directly. He also plans to strengthen his communication around StopCovid, a system which still seems important to him in fighting the epidemic.

Since its launch, the app has not been spared from controversy. We spoke to you in particular last weekrevelationsby researcher Gaëtan Leurent, according to which StopCovid collects all of the identifiers of people encountered. A version which contradicts the presentation made by the government which explained that the data collected only concerned users of the tool with whom you were in contact within one meter for at least 15 minutes.
