As seen yesterday, some journalists already have a new iPhone or iPhone 12 Pro in their hands, although the first deliveries to the general public begin tomorrow.
Remember that pre-orders start last Friday at 2 p.m., and you canfind our guide hereallowing you to find the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro at the best price.
Initial test feedback has already been published on the internet about these two machines. Some were interested in the new photos, others dissected the new MagSafe connector, while 5G was also at the center of certain experiments.
Because the new iPhones are arriving equipped with this new wireless internet technology, which is a first for Apple and its smartphones. At Tom's Guide for example, the journalists chose to test this characteristic, not in relation to surfing or download speed, but in terms ofimpact on the autonomy of the device.
Greedy, 5G
And the results are clear. By carrying out the same manipulations on the iPhone 12 and on the iPhone 12 Pro, with the same settings, but once with 4G turned on and the other time with 5G turned on, Tom's Guide realized that the autonomy n was not at all the same in each of the two cases.
With 4G, the iPhone 12 held up during experiments10h et 23 minutes. The same model on 5G only held8h25, either1h58 less. For the iPhone 12 Pro, the impact is even stronger. The device held11h24in 4G test and only9h06a test 5G, soot2h18 less.
The testers even went further in the comparison by looking at the autonomy scores with 5G among competitors, to realize for example that the Galaxy S20, in the context of identical tests, held9h31 a 5G, almost half an hour longer than the iPhone 12 Pro.
It is obvious that 4G is energy intensive. This is also why Apple thought of integrating a new functionality supported by iOS into its 5G iPhones. This is a5G automatic activation/deactivationdepending on the mobile data and speed needs of the current task. In short, the iPhone can intelligently switch to 4G in certain situations, thus saving battery, and return to 5G occasionally.
But the journalist from Tom's Guide specifies that this functionality does not yet seem to adapt well to user behavior and their needs. So, as it stands, he advises future iPhone 12 owners to manually switch to 4G when 5G is not necessary.
Still, for the moment, this is not likely to be a problem for us in France, given that 5G is not yet really deployed in the country. This will be done in the coming months, normally at the very end of the year.
