Tim Cook talks about autonomous vehicles in an interview

For many years now, rumors have been rife aboutthe Apple Car project. The Cupertino company has never formally formalized this car idea but it does seem to be taking shape.

Guest of the “Sway” podcast presented by Kara Swisher, Tim Cook recently returned to the subject of autonomous vehicles. He explains:

Autonomy itself is a core technology, in my opinion. If you step back, the car, in many ways, is a robot. A self-driving car is a robot. And so there's a lot of things you can do with autonomy. And we'll see what Apple does.

A $50 billion business for Apple?

The boss of the Cupertino firm did not wish to say whether or not the company was working on a car. However, he specifies: “We love integrating hardware, software and services, and finding the intersection points of these because we believe that's where the magic happens. And we love owning the core technology around it.»

He will not say more, but Tim Cook nevertheless confirms that he is interested in the work of Elon Musk “I have never spoken to Elon, although I have great admiration and respect for the company he built. I think Tesla has done an incredible job of not only putting itself in the lead, but staying in the lead for such a long period of time in the electric vehicle industry. So I really like them. »

As a reminder, some analysts expecta real steamrollerif Apple took the plunge. Thus, Harsh Kumar of the American investment bank Piper Sandler thinks that Apple can earn up to $50 billion by 2030. The company could thus rely on its trademark: democratizing an emerging technology .

As always in such cases, you will have to be patient before the Apple brand agrees to say more. In any case, the subject seems to fascinate Tim Cook who does not fail to make it known.
