Everything you need to know about the Apple Watch Series 10: price, reviews and technical sheet

Apple presented in September 2024, during its “It's Glowtime” event, a new Apple Watch, the Series 10. This was to constitute the generation of disruption, but it instead settled like that of the continuity and optimization. Without changing the world, this Apple Watch came with some very welcome new features. Let's detail the sets, with at the end our opinion on the product, in relation to its price in particular and to other Apple watches.

Introduction

Presented as the only new addition to the Watch range for 2024, in the absence of an Ultra 3, the Apple Watch Series 10 had been the subject of numerous rumors in the months preceding its release. Alongside the new iPhone 16, Plus, Pro and Pro Max, it continued to grow the Apple ecosystem, with a particular focus on user health.

The case: the big news

If the Apple Watch Series 10 looks like a Series 9, released the year before, a small detail makes all the difference. Indeed, the two watchesare not the same size. Apple Watches were until now commonly sold by Apple in 41 and 45 millimeters to fit all wrists.

But with Series 10, therefore, the Cupertino company has decided to enlarge the format a little, moving to 42 and 46 millimeter cases. This change in width does not come alone and is accompanied by another modification. Apple has indeed managed to gain a millimeter in thickness. When we know that the Series 9 already measured only 10.7 mm, we remain amazed at the performance of reducing the figure to only 9.7 mm.

But these changes in size have other consequences, notably on the weight of the whole. If a millimeter does not transform an Apple Watch, the arrival of titanium instead of stainless steel doesa big difference. In its 46mm version, the Apple Watch Series 10 in titanium weighs 41.7g. It is10g lighter than Series 9large size stainless steel (51.5g).

A screen… brilliant

Apple hasn't limited itself to aesthetic changes. The Apple brand has indeed made changes to the screen. The panel is still OLED, but it is equipped on the Series 10 with thetechnology LPTO3(against classic LPTO on Series 9).

The Californian firm announces a screen40% brighter on Series 10 compared to Series 9, depending on the viewing angle used. She assures that this feature allows you to see your watch clearly in several positions, without having the screen literally in front of your eyes.

Performance: name change, but still?

Under the screen, the Apple Watch Series 10 is powered by anew SiP S10 chip. If the name changes compared to last year (and the SiP S9 on the Series 9), the technical characteristics remain the same. Gains can still be hoped for in terms of autonomy with this chip which is supposed to remain just as efficient as the previous generation, without being as greedy.

The processor's Neural Engine has also been revised by Apple teams. According to Apple, the watch would be more comfortable with intelligent gestures like “double tap” (already available on the Series 9). The component would also improve automatic detection of accidents or falls, two features that have saved many lives in the past.

Health sensors

Like every year, the most interesting part about an Apple Watch concerns its health-related sensors. The big news for 2024 on this point is the arrival of asleep apnea detection technology. Apple, however, was careful not to give too many details about this technology (for the moment unique in the world on a connected watch). We still know that this functionality is not exclusive to the Series 10. The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 also benefit from it.

For the rest, Apple surprises no one and the technical sheet of the Apple Watch Series 10 is a copy and paste of the Apple Watch Series 9 launched last year. The apple brand still offers heart rate detection, blood oxygen level measurement, sleep monitoring, menstrual cycle and body temperature.

Autonomy and recharging

The last important point to know before embarking on the purchase of an Apple Watch Series 10 is undoubtedlyits autonomy. Apple's connected watches are known to be quite short-lived and this new version is no exception to the rule.

Apple communicates on this subject by insisting on the fact that the Series 10 is indeed “capable of lasting a whole day”. In fact, the watch holds6 p.m.(you can go up to24 hoursby moderating your uses to and36 hoursin energy saving mode). This is very far from the big names of the type that are sports watches, capable of going for entire weeks without ever seeing a charger.

Regarding the load, there is something new. This Series 10 is capable of replenishing reserves at high speed, going from 0 to 80% charge in just 30 minutes. This is a quarter of an hour better than on the Series 9.

Prices, colors and availability

The Apple Watch Series 10 is available in aluminum in3 colors(silver, rose gold and jet black) priced at449 €(€30 more to go from 42 to 46 mm and €120 extra for the GPS + Cellular version). As for the titanium models, they are availablefrom €799in three finishes, natural, gold and slate (count here €50 more to go from 42 to 46 mm). In the case of the titanium version, no choice of connection, you are only entitled to the GPS + Cellular version.

For comparison, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is still sold new by Apple at a price of €899.

Apple Watch Series 10: crack or pass?

With the arrival of this new generation of Apple Watch, supposed to mark the 10th anniversary of the connected watch, expectations were high, very high. In our opinion, the Cupertino company has not fully responded. Despite an interesting product, the general public may feel shortchanged with a watch quite close to the Series 9 launched last year (at the same price).

However, should we pass on this Series 10 and put it directly in the disappointment department? In reality, it all depends on your expectations. As is the case with many Apple products, the new models are not necessarily aimed at all audiences. They may be of great interest to those who do not yet have an Apple Watch or who have an older model, such as a Series 7 or earlier.

We think that Apple Watch Series 8 or 9 owners can take their turn here. The Apple brand knows that connected watch buyers only renew their product every 2 or 3 years. If you are still in this first life cycle, it is not very interesting to change to a Series 10. The minor modifications made by this generation compared to old models from 2021, 2022 or 2023 will leave you a bitter aftertaste.

So, do you have a Series 7 or older watches? It's abig yesfor the Series 10 (or even a second-hand Series 9). Do you have a Series 8 or 9? Try waiting for Series 11.
