Voice recognition
has continued to develop for several years and the mobile market has
gave it a real boost. It is of course Dragon with its apps on
iPhone then very recentlySiri implemented on the iPhone
4Swhich marked the turning point on the iOS side.
Since then, many applications have appeared on the App Store and the
latest one released yesterday got people talking. For good reason, it is neither more nor
less than onesort of Siri of translation.
L’application
is called iTranslate Voice and is sold for 0.79 euros here on the App
Store
Imagine the ideal tool: youspeak in a language,
l’iPhonelistens, decodes, translates into another language and states the
phrase, all in seconds. This is the objective of
the application, but in reality, is it required?
Our first feedback and a demo video in French, English and even
Japanese in the following:
The app interface is classic, sober but successful and reminiscent of Siri,
(why reinvent the wheel after all).
SideLANGUAGES, you will have the choice, there are 31 and more
current are present, no in-app purchases to be expected, everything is present from the start
departure, that's good!
Now listedperformances, because that is what
it's aboutdoes this work?
First of all, thevoice recognition works instead
GOOD, but it has its limits and you know them, they are
same as Siri. Logical, since both use the
Nuance servers (Dragon dictation) to “listen” and decode your
words.
Then comes the second part, thetranslation! To be,
as often, we come up againstlimits of translation
automatic(have you ever read translations made via
Google ? It's often laughable). On simple sentences (and as long as
voice recognition has faithfully reproduced your words) the result is
rather correct (tested with English) but we quickly find errors
classics of this type of tool.
To see for yourself, here are some tests carried out directly,
without assembly, raw:
SO,Do we have a revolutionary gadget or app here?
I would say that it is between the two, namely thatthis can help and
that technologically it is really impressive, on the other hand we do not
will not be able to rest 100% on this abroad to hope to get out of it
if you don't know the language. This all the more, it should be noted, that
the application requires a data connection to function, connection which are
often expensive abroad.
The fact remains that we are talking about an app at 0.79 euros,at this price, nothing but
for the beauty of what this allows, it remains quite impressive,
just not magic!
