Google unveils its new Pixel 4: square photo module, gesture control and other new features

The Mountain View giant has finally unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Pixel 4, an evolution of the Pixel 3 from 2018. Google presents it as more powerful on many points, including photography, already one of the specialties of the previous model, notably in low light situations.

Here are some details to remember about this new machine:

Photo enhancements

The Pixel 4 is equipped with 2 photo sensors, compared to only one on the model 3. The two sensors, including the telephoto lens, are integrated in a sort of square similar to what we see on the iPhone 11. This design for the photo module has also been the subject of numerous criticism for the iPhone. Will it be the same for this Pixel 4?

For the hardware part, apart from the addition of a second lens, the photo changes seem few. On the software side, however, there are several interesting additions. On the one hand, new HDR technologies to improve the quality of photos. On the other hand, a Super Rez Zoom function promises digital zooms with minimal loss. Finally, Night Sight technology, which allows excellent night photography without flash, has also been improved. Moreover, the Pixels 3 and 3a will also be able to benefit from these improvements for night photos.

Google announced a new, more efficient Google Assistant on its Pixel 4, but also presented the integration of a motion sensor allowing you to control your smartphone remotely using hand gestures. This is technology called Motion Sense.
