iOS 18: the number of updated native apps would skyrocket

Notes, Photos, Mail and Form could be entitled to a major update as part of the launch of iOS 18. This is what the journalist fromBloombergMark Gurman, often among the best informed on this subject. Apple's new operating system should see the light of day duringla Worldwide Developer Conference, whose opening keynote is scheduled for June 10 at 7 p.m. (Paris time). It is the same evening that the beta version for developers should be made available. For the public beta version, we will probably have to wait until July, compared to September for the final version. The ideal here is to wait until the latter, to avoid possible bugs.

We cannot verify the veracity of this information with certainty, butMark Gurman has often been right in the past. The analyst also believes that iOS 18 should still give pride of place to artificial intelligence. To achieve this, it is rumored that Apple has entered into talks with OpenAI and Google, perhaps for an integration of their language models within the algorithm that powers Siri. The voice assistant has been available on iPhone since 2011, and allows users to be informed orally about the day's weather, mathematical calculations and even currency conversions.

What's new for Notes and Photos?

We think thatNotescould, with iOS 18, accommodate the possibility of integrating mathematical operations (via Calculator) and voice memos, recorded directly from the platform and without going through the Dictaphone app. Apple's Notes app is installed natively on all iPhones, all iPads and all Macs that are currently available in stores.

RegardingPhotos, recent rumors shared on Twittermention the case of a visual search which would be encrypted. Which is not without echoing the end-to-end encryption that Apple offers for a lot of data stored on iCloud including, precisely, the images captured with the iPhone camera.

We have not yet reported on potential new features dedicated to Mail or Forme, For now. Be aware, however, that announcements from the Worldwide Developer Conference may not be complete. Indeed, it is not uncommon to see the organizer unveil additional new features on the official presentation page of the new version of iOS, each year, on its official website. If this is the case, we will of course keep you informed.

Other apps in the loop

Mail, Form, Notes, Siri and Photos aren't the only apps expected to be updated at the Worldwide Developer Conference. Indeed, we assume thatCalculatorwill also benefit from some new features, particularly for macOS 15. Among these, we can notably cite the case of easier conversions or window resizing.

Freeformshould also be in the news this year, whether on iPad or iPhone. Apple could thus present a functionality allowing you to pin certain parts of your canvas to easily find them, especially if it is too wide. The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset could then benefit greatly from this, given the precisely infinite surface of its display. As a reminder, the mount should also be entitled to a new version of its operating system, during WWDC. It will certainly be visionOS 2, with probably support for the third generation Apple Pencil expected during the keynote on May 7 where the iPad Pro M3 and the 12.9-inch iPad Air would also see the light of day. .
