“Emergency SOS” the functionality that saves lives

Fortunately for the hikers, every 20 minutes or so a satellite would pass overhead and allow them to send emergency SOS calls to 911. The Emery County Sheriff was the first to receive the calls to help. He quickly gathered a team of rescuers and a few minutes later two helicopters took off.

Two hours after the first emergency message, the two trapped hikers were able to be taken out of the cold water. As night fell, it was now impossible to get them out of the canyon. Rescuers received a new reassuring message. The three students started a fire with wood found near the river.

A happy ending thanks to Apple

Between 11 p.m. and midnight, the three hikers were finally rescued by a team of specialized firefighters. They were medically monitored for a few hours after the incident. One of the three young men was in a more serious state of hypothermia, but his life was not in danger.
