TSMC would soon produce Apple chips engraved in 4 nanometers

It's once again the Taiwanese magazineDigiTimeswho announces it: thelast quarter 2021will be an opportunity for the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to start mass production of its new generation processors. These would be engraved with a fineness of only four nanometers, compared to five for the current A14 which powers the iPhone 12 and the fourth generation iPad Air.

Because yes, it is indeed Apple, a major customer of the Asian company, which should benefit from it. But this time, on the other hand, it is the Macs which would integrate such components. Their precise release date is not known at this time. We do not know exactly which computer it could be, even ifan iMac with a revisited design seems to have been in the works for several weeks now.

Change also on the mobile side

THEiPhone 13(the name is not official there either), for their part, would continue to focus on five nanometers. But the manufacturing process for the potential Apple A15 chip would actually begin in May, in order to prepare for a commercial release for the end of the year. If Cupertino follows its usual schedule, it will likely be during a fully online keynote planned for September that the device will be unveiled.

Its technical sheet would also be improved, with a more efficient photo sensor according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned analyst on the subject. Its price remains to be defined. As for the format, it should not change: we would be entitled to four different screen sizes. Some have reservations about the mini edition since it would not sell as well as the others, but nothing is less certain...

Apple silicon: winning bet

Still believingDigiTimes, it was actually in 2022 that TSMC planned to begin large-scale manufacturing of 4nm processors. His calendar would therefore beadvance, which suggests that Apple orders follow. And for good reason: Macs equipped with the M1 processor are praised by the press, their performance matching the most demanding software.

The next generation is therefore eagerly awaited by investors, consumers and the media.Intel, on the other hand, would hope to get a piece of the piesince having been ousted from the collaboration with Tim Cook's firm during the recent Worldwide Developer Conference…
