- Twitter users are limited in the number of tweets they can read each day
- The maximum is now ten thousand tweets, for paid accounts
- This limit has been put in place for security reasons.
To combat scraping, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has just announced that Twitter users can now only read a limited number of tweets daily. More precisely, for paid accounts, we are talking here about ten thousand tweets, compared to only one thousand for the others and five hundred for those who have just registered.
Web scraping is a method of using robots to automate data collection. For example, a company can use it to collect the usernames of all Internet users who mention a particular subject, identified by the keywords present in the tweets. A good way to prospect, but which the various social networks try to counter as best as possible.
No unlocking possible?
It seems for the moment that there is no alternative to return to Twitter's previous limitations, which are much less restrictive. Even customers who upgrade to a certified account are affected by this major new feature, with ten thousand tweets to view per day.
As a reminder, on Twitter, the certified account for an individual today costs eleven euros per month. For this price, it is possible to personalize the text of tweets with bold or italics, to publish longer videos or to edit a message after having published it.
Internet users are already turning to the competition
If, despite everything, you are already thinking about leaving the Twitter platform, then manyalternativesare available to you. The most popular at the moment seems to be the social networkMastodon, which turns out to be decentralized and self-hosted. As a bonus, it's free, but the app is a little more complicated to use than our famous blue bird.
Otherwise, Post, created by the former manager of Waze, can also do the trick. Its interface is more similar to Twitter, but for the moment you have to register on a waiting list to try to access the content.
And you, do you still use Twitter? If not, what is your favorite alternative?
