A well-known iPhone component disappears in these images

The 91mobiles site has struck again. In a brand new article, the blog explains that it had access tothree-dimensional renderings of the fourth generation iPhone SE. We discover that the device looks exactly like an iPhone 14, as other rumors that appeared beforehand also suggested. We would therefore be entitled to acomplete lack of home button, in other words the interface that allowed the fingerprint sensor to work for biometric unlocking. Instead, Apple has decided to integrate the TrueDepth sensor on the front. The latter is hidden behind the notch and allows face recognition, with the associated algorithm marketed under the nameFace ID.

Apple has not announced a release date for the fourth generation iPhone SE. Moreover, the company has never yet confirmed that such a device is indeed in the pipeline. But according to some indications, the product would have already been planned for 2024 before finally being postponed to the following year. The fault, perhaps, of stocks still too large tothe third generation iPhone SEwhich is still available in the Apple Store for less than six hundred euros. Which makes it, quite simply, the most affordable mobile phone offered by the Cupertino giant today (among the models available new in the Apple Store).

A major difference with the iPhone 14 is emerging

Despite everything, this fourth generation iPhone SE would still be quite different from the iPhone 14. And for good reason:a single dorsal photo sensoris visible on the renderings shared by 91mobiles. Which makes sense, given that this is also the ilk of the two previous versions of the entry-level series. We do not yet know the definition of the lens, but it could be limited to twelve megapixels at wide angle. For comparison, it is rumored that the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro will benefit from forty-eight megapixels here, with also an ultra wide-angle and a 5x zoom on the back.

With this, let us clarify that theprocessorshould also be different from that of the iPhone 14. We indeed expect to see the A16 Bionic processor land under the hood of the fourth generation iPhone SE. This is the motherboard that currently equips the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Logical, when we know that the iPhone SEs, since 2020, are all equipped with the CPU that powers the generation of high-end iPhone released a few months earlier.

When will we be able to discover this new iPhone SE 4?

The fourth generation iPhone SE could land between the second half of March and the beginning of May, in2025. Asno keynote is apparently planned for spring 2024, we assume that it is then via a conference that the future mobile phone will see the light of day next year. In fact, spring keynotes are organized approximately every other year. The 2025 event should be organized at the Steve Jobs Theater, an auditorium installed in the heart of Apple Park, a Californian complex housing the headquarters of the company of the same name. At the same time, a live broadcast will probably be broadcast on the YouTube platform. Latecomers will then be able to benefit from a rebroadcast, or a press release published on thenewsroomd’Apple.

Of course, let us point out that all the rumors concerning the fourth generation iPhone SE must be considered with caution. In fact, the manufacturer does not reveal its projects before formalization in due form. It is also not uncommon for certain information to ultimately not be proven during the Apple firm's announcements.

As a reminder, the fingerprint sensor under the home button is currently only available with the third generation iPhone SE, among all the smartphones in this collection. Abandoning it with the next version should therefore sign the end of this value proposition on Apple mobiles, even if a fingerprint sensor is still available on the edge of the iPad Air.

  • A fourth generation iPhone SE could see the light of day in spring 2025
  • The device would abandon the home button and its fingerprint sensor
  • Instead, Apple is reportedly planning an iPhone 14-like design with Face ID.
