The Apple firm allocates numerous resources to innovation and scientific research. Thus, it regularly files patents in order to protect its discoveries from malicious competitors and to guarantee its right to intellectual property.
The work carried out in the laboratory by Apple researchers generally has a very specific goal. They can be intended for a whole range of application areas, ranging from the ergonomics of its devices to the lifespan of a battery. Concerning the last ones that we presented to you for example, they are intended for the Apple Vision Proand concern technologies for identification and navigation by gaze.
There is alsotwo other patentsof the apple brand which haverecently been validated by the American officewho is responsible for it. This time they concerna device that could be integrated into the Apple Watch Ultrain the future, and which would allow wireless electronic devices to communicate and be recharged underwater. This is reminiscent of the recent and tragic disappearance of the Titan submarine in the underwater depths of the ocean. Remote underwater communication is a major challenge given that water disrupts wave propagation.
Emergency SOS soon underwater?
The first part of Apple's patent presents a scenario where multiple iPhones or an Apple Watch are submerged in an underwater environment. We imagine that each device belongs to a diver, and that they are able to communicate underwater thanks to Apple technology. They will thus be able tosend an SOS to their colleaguesin the event of an unforeseen incident. The patent mentions in particular alert messages such as “HELP»/«HELP», or «SHARK !!! »/«SHARK!!! ", but there would bealso the possibility of writing a message underwaterthanks to a “keyboard optimized for underwater use».
All this is made possible thanks to an antenna which is presented to the surface of the water, on a boat for example. It will create a powerful magnetic field which will provide a connection to devices around it, including underwater.
Thanks to Apple, divers will soon be able to communicate in the deep sea as easily as fish swim there.
