Disney is a company known all over the world. One of the largest American companies, just like Apple. But according to the former boss ofthe big-eared society, Bog Iger said a potential merger with Apple would likely have “worked out.”
He clarified immediately during the CNBC interview that he never had any discussions on the subject with Steve Jobs, but he claimed that Jobs was passionate about "everything Dinsey did" and his past experience in time as Pixar boss would have been a perfect entry point for him.
According to him, the merger would have made it possible to create a perfect combination of “great technology” and “great creativity”. This is not the first time that Mickey's former boss has mentionedthe idea of a merger between the two companies. In fact, he already assured in 2019 in his memoirs that if Steve Jobs had lived longer, the idea of a merger with Disney would have, at the very least, “been discussed very seriously”.
According to him, this would have allowed for more rapid development of the SVOD platforms that we know today, know Disney+ and Apple TV+. If today the two services are competitors, in a parallel universe they would have become one, and would have merged before even existing.
Iger and Jobs, a special relationship between two minds of the 21st century
Iger then recalled during the interview the relationship he had with Steve Jobs. According to him, it all started when Disney began discussions with Pixar, of which Jobs was the co-founder. When the company was bought by the entertainment giant, Steve Jobs became a shareholder of Disney and he could therefore influence several decisions of the company's board of directors.
As the years passed, Iger and Jobs became close and friends. Iger had become a member of Apple's board of directors, a position he left in 2019. As for Disney, the latter is still present on the board, but he would be on the verge of leaving this seat according to his own declarations.
