Apple has just made a change to the domain name of Montreal startup Mobeewave, which it bought last year for its payment technology. In July 2020,the redemptionmarked Apple's plan to convert any iPhone equipped with an NFC chip into a mobile payment terminal.
At the end of the week, the apple brand took possession of the domain name “Mobeewave.com”, which was no longer operational. Now, the latter officially belongs to Apple and should also be redirected to the brand's official website in the near future: once the technology is integrated, deployed and announced on iPhones.
iPhones as payment terminals
This change is not the subject of any parallel announcement, but serves as a reminder that Apple is determined to deploy the technology purchased from Mobeewave. This should be a good selling point for traders who do not wish to equip themselves with aTPE mobilelike those ofZettle (PayPal)or even Sum Up or Smile&Pay. It could also lead to a system of payment between friends by card.
Mobeewave teams continue to work from Montreal, Quebec, where the startup launched. The buyout price has never been revealed. Bloomberg estimates it at more than $100 million even though the startup was already being eyed at the time by Samsung, which had invested in it during a financing operation.

During this acquisition, Apple did not wish to give any details, certainly preferring to highlight its brand when the technology is indeed released on the iPhone.“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our goals or plans,”commented a company spokesperson on July 31, 2020.
