You know this if you read us regularly, on June 10,Apple will hold a Keynote. For the Californian firm, it will be a question of opening WWDC 2024 while taking advantage of the event to announce to us the new features of the next OS,iOS 18and macOS 15 in particular. If this traditional WWDC Apple Event is primarily centered around software, it is common to see some hardware revelations. Generally speaking, these announcements concern the Mac. And indeed, several computers marked with the apple have not been updated for a while. It therefore seems quite likely to us that the Cupertino company will unveilnew versions of some of its Macs on June 10. In any case, many await these new generations of products with a certain impatience. Here are the 4 machines affected.
Mac Pro M3 Ultra / M4 Ultra
The Mac Pro, despite its high price, remains a popular machine in certain professional circles with very specific needs. The last generation of the beast dates from June 2023. At the time, Apple offered a basic refresh, including the transition to the new generation of Apple silicon M2 chip. Here we are a year later, and already two new generations of Apple silicon chips later. Indeed, the newly released iPad Pro benefits from an M4 chip. This is why it does not seem impossible to us to see Apple unveil aMac Pro with Apple silicon M4 Ultra chip. Or at least an M3 Ultra chip!
Mac Studio M3 Ultra / M4 Ultra
On the Mac Studio side, the observation is the same as for the Mac Pro. In June 2023, during this year's WWDC, the Californian firm announced a new version of the machine with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip. So, we are expecting a new Mac Studio for this year's WWDC, ideally with, inside,an M4 Max or M4 Ultra chip, or, in the worst case, the Max/Ultra versions of the Apple silicon M3 chip.
For Mac Pro and Mac Studio, however, no design changes are expected this time.
iMac Pro M4
The iMac Pro has a funny history. It appeared on the market in December 2017. Apple presented it as the “Pro” bent of the classic iMac. The design was almost the same, the finish was different. Inside, obviously, the components marked a big difference from the classic all-in-one. More CPU cores, more GPU power, more RAM, but also more disk space, etc.
And then, surprisingly, in 2021, the iMac Pro left the catalog. Since then, he has never been seen again... Until some analystsannounce to usthat the “iMac Pro” project is still in development within the Cupertino laboratories! It would therefore not be completely illusory to think that we could see, on June 10, Tim Cook present anew iMac Pro with Apple silicon M4 chip.
Mac mini M3/M4
Finally, the last Apple box of the lot which carries a lot of waiting, the Mac mini. The current generation of the very small PC dates from January 2023. It benefits from the Apple silicon M2 and M2 Pro chips. Banking on its renewal during the next WWDC does not seem risky to us. On the other hand, it is impossible to say at this stage whether Apple will equip it with M3 and M3 Pro, or M4 and M4 Pro chips.
Anyway, if you were planning to acquire one of these 4 computers in the coming days,we advise you to remain patient and wait wisely for the conference on June 10. From there, you will have many more elements on hand to ensure the longevity and relevance of your purchase.
Tell us in the comments which Mac announcement you are most looking forward to for the next WWDC 2024. As for us, we'll see you on June 10 to let you follow the event as part of a new text follow-up live.
