Molotov: Xavier Niel could invest 15 million euros in the service

The situation is not necessarily looking good for Molotov, who must monetize his service and his apps while facing a large number of obstacles from “historical” TV players. Thus, last September, Molotov removed the recording function from its free offer, following an increase in the tax for private copying.

Altice is in discussions with Molotov to acquire the latter's capital, and provide funds which will allow Molotov to continue to develop, particularly internationally.

While negotiations could fail between the two, a new recognized actor could come to Molotov's aid, Xavier Niel. If Patrick Drahi's group cannot reach an agreement with Molotov, Xavier Niel could well take over thanks to his private holding company NJJ.

The latter would then invest around 15 million euros in Molotov, as part of a fundraising effort, which would allow the service to raise between 30 and 40 million euros.

While Molotov is struggling to monetize its service and its apps, the financial equilibrium of the startup would not be immediate, because the founders of Molotov have decided to invest more in the service.

This pushes back the profitability of the service initially planned for 2021. Thus, if the financial means are sufficient, Molotov would like to be able to “conquer Europe and the world”.
