The new Gmail widget is therefore to be added by doing “Modify home screen” after long-pressing an app icon, then pressing the little plus displayed at the top left.

The widget in question, to be placed wherever you want, between apps or in the Today view, offers 3 action shortcuts: quick access to the search function, quick access to writing a new e-mail email and quick access to your inbox.

Too bad it doesn't display a preview of the latest emails received and that it isn't offered in three different sizes, as other third-party application widgets are. Hopefully Google improves this Gmail widget in the future.
