Apple has a way to simulate spatial audio on non-compatible content

Spatial audio, which allows for a more immersive audio experience,is part of the recent novelties of the Apple ecosystem. And during its WWDC conference, the firm also strengthened this functionality, by offering it onFaceTime calls, so that during video calls, the audio makes you feel like you're actually in front of the person you're chatting with.

Furthermore, Apple wants you to be able to enjoy this audio functionality regardless of the content you watch or listen to, and even if this content is not normally compatible. Indeed, as reported by the site 9to5Mac, the iOS 15 beta, which is currently available to developers, includes a “Spatialize Stereo” button.

On iOS 15, Spatialize Stereo simulates the immersive experience of spatial audio on content that does not support this feature (non-Dolby content)

In essence, when Spatialize Stereo is enabled, it simulates the immersive experience of spatial audio for content that is not normally compatible (Dolby content). The experience isn't the same as what you would have on Dolby content, but at least you'll have a 3D effect making you feel like the sound is coming from multiple directions.

On iOS 15, the “Spatialize Stereo” button would be accessible in the Control Center. All you have to do is make a long press on the volume adjustment to see this button appear. The same option is also available on macOS Monterey.

For the moment, this new feature, which should significantly improve the user experience, is only accessible to developers. However, iOS 15 and macOS Monterey will be available in public beta in a few weeks. And normally, you will be able to install this beta in order to test Spatialize Stereo.

Another good reason to buy AirPods Pro or AirPod Max?

Normally, this feature should further encourage Apple users to purchase compatible earphones and headsets, in order to enjoy a superior audio experience. Currently, Apple is still the leader in wireless headphones. However, the firm is under pressure, because of the price war in which manufacturers are engaged. On the other hand, in the premium market, Apple also faces competition from brands such as Samsung, Google, and Sony.
