After video games and series, Apple wants to offer podcasts

Apple finances the production of TV series and films, as well as new iOS games which will soon be available this fall, via two new services, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade.

And now we learn that the Apple firm now wants to finance the production of several podcasts, in order to obtain exclusives for its platform.

Until now, Apple has participated in the podcast ecosystem by hosting the leading podcast directory on the internet. This is used by the majority of podcast readers to find and listen to new shows.

Apple also has an app pre-installed on all iPhones and iPads, which is the most used podcast player in the world, in terms of market share.

According to a new report from the American newspaper Bloomberg, Apple is in discussions with several players to finance the production of several podcasts, and thus obtain exclusives for its platform.

We imagine that Apple's exclusive podcasts would benefit from a nice spotlight, on the Podcasts player integrated into the iPhone or iPad. A macOS app will also debut in macOS Catalina.

Apple is increasingly diversifying into content production, after video games for its Apple Arcade service, and original TV series and films for Apple TV+, the Cupertino firm is now moving towards podcasts.

Apple will, however, have to face fierce competition fromof Spotify in this area. Because faced with the growing popularity of podcasts, the Swedish streaming service has invested several hundred million dollars to develop podcasts in its offering.
