Apple has just announced, at the very end of the opening conference of this WWDC, the arrival of ChatGPT within the latest versions of iOS (18), iPadOS (18) and macOS (15). The Apple brand detailed for almost two hours all the features linked to artificial intelligence that it has introduced in these new operating systems.
But to go even further, to be even more precise in its responses, Apple's artificial intelligence will be able to count on the integration of ChatGPT, the world leader in generative artificial intelligence. We had known for several days thatApple had reached an agreement with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, but we were still waiting to see what the integration of this conversational tool into the iPhone might look like.
ChatGPT in iPhone: what does it look like?
Concretely, the integration of ChatGPT should go through Siri. The voice assistant has experienced a real renaissance with the arrival of Apple Intelligence. It will be able to answer most of the questions asked by users, but some, which require going even further, it will be able to count on the support of ChatGPT.
To make users aware of this nuance, all requests that require the use of ChatGPT will be specified. User consent was at the heart of Apple's presentation. User data is a major issue for the Apple brand.
What will ChatGPT be able to do?
During the presentation given by Tim Cook's teams, Apple demonstrated several cases where the use of ChatGPT was necessary. The AI can be used in particular to write a story, with the “Compose” option present in the Notes application. It should also be able to create images.
ChatGPT will also be able to provide more precise information to answer specific questions. Apple clarified that the integration is done without the need to create an account. For those who already have one, they will be able to log in and find all conversations with ChatGPT in their history.
Small clarification which will be important, the use of ChatGPT, and more generally of Apple Intelligence is reserved for “recent” specific Apple devices. The list of affected products is not yet known, but Macs with an Intel chip as well as iPhone 14 and earlier may not be compatible with these new options.
