The Apple firm is quietly developing its artificial intelligence models on its side, but still wants to offer features in iOS 18. Even if the Cupertino researchers seem to be makingsignificant advances in the field, it is unlikely that Apple would have been able to develop a model as efficient as GPT-4 in less than a year. It took OpenAI around 8 years to achieve the results we know today.
Some were disappointed to see that Apple was in talks with Google, rather than the creator of ChatGPT. However, we have just learned thatApple is also considering OpenAI as a partner, with the aim of integrating artificial intelligence into iOS 18.
3 potential partners
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple is negotiating with three potential partners in total.OpenAI and Googleare probably the best options, but their tools are notnot accepted everywhere, especially in China. In order to comply with the laws of the countries where it operates, Apple is therefore considering signing with Baidu to power its AI functionalities in China.
The features in question are, according to rumors:“a range of iPhone features and apps including Siri, Spotlight, Apple Music, Health, Messages, Numbers, Pages, Keynote, Shortcuts and more.”
Features exclusively reserved for the iPhone 16?
The more we move forward in time, the more the rumors seem to offer a possible vision of what Apple plans to do. Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 could offer unique performances, in order tointegrate artificial intelligence functionalities locally, which would be developed by Apple itself.
But iOS 18 could, however, offer features that all iPhones will be able to run via servers, as is the case with the popular tools we know today. We believe this is why Apple is considering a partnership with Google or OpenAI, but we'll know more in June.
