Since its launch in 2021, the airTag has been a great commercial success for Apple. But this little tracker, very useful for keeping track of your keys or your wallet, has also been used for malicious purposes. Many people say they have been harassed or robbed because of Apple AirTags. The latter in fact greatly facilitate the lives of criminals who permanently know the location of their victim.
Marked for life by this affair, several people decided last December to come together and launch a class action against Apple in the California court. We have just learned that three new people have just joined the group after having sufferedharassmentor attempted murder.
An AirTag led to a murder
Because AirTags have made it possible to commit the worst. As the plaintiffs' filing explains, some people have died indirectly because of Apple. This is particularly the case of LaPrecia Sanders' son. This family living in Indiana is among the people behind the complaint.
This mom lost her child after he was followed for hours by his ex-girlfriend. The latter, not having tolerated the breakup, waited until he left a bar with friends to run over her in the car. Despite the efforts of rescue teams, the young man succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Apple didn't do enough
If Apple is not directly responsible for this murder, LaPrecia Sanders assures that the Cupertino company could have made efforts in the preceding months to put an end to these people tracking problems. The problem has existed since the release of AirTags. Apple proposedseveral updateson its iPhones to reduce the tracking of people, but according to the plaintiffs the Cupertino company was still very far from the mark.
