We finally know what the AirTags update contains (it's a revolution)

A clue suggested it several months in advance, it is now done: Apple is finally communicating on the changes brought by the updates of its AirTags. These small connected beacons have been available since 2021 and allow you toeasily find a lost itemby hanging them there. Thanks to the magic of Bluetooth and the network of millions of users of the Find My app on iPhone, everyone can benefit from it as long as they own an Apple device.

The problem is that until now the new versions of the operating system of these accessories did not tell us their content. We could only learn that these were delivered with possiblebug fixesnot detailed and security improvements, but that's about it. Except that now, a page dedicated to additional features exists to enlighten us. Let's take stock.

New:Precise location

The official Apple documentation explains that withthe update numbered 2.0.24 that we already mentioned last month, users can now call on thePrecise location. This is to tell you exactly where your lost AirTag is located, “even if it's stuck between the couch cushions or hidden under a pile of mail” as indicated by the manufacturer. To benefit from it, however, be aware that you must have invested in an iPhone compatible with the technologyUWB(ultra-wideband). Either one of the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 family mobiles.

Here is the procedure to follow to find your AirTag withPrecise location:

  1. open the Find My app on an eligible iPhone
  2. touchObjects
  3. tap the name of the AirTag in question
  4. touchLocate nearby(see here if the option is not displayed)
  5. follow the instructions that appear and move around until your iPhone pairs with the AirTag
  6. touchMake a sound
  7. touchFinishedwhen you found your AirTag

Additional security notification

With this, version 2.0.24 also allows you tosend an alert when an AirTag that belongs to someone else is tracking you. To do this, your iPhone must be active and theAirplane modeis not disabled. An alarm goes off, as a bonus, to help you get your hands on the beacon and, possibly, deactivate it. To do this, simply remove the battery.

Finally, note thatthe version 2.0.36revealed for its part about a week ago corrects a technical problem where the accelerometer did not trigger as expected in certain cases.
