If you take a look at the settings for your AirTag, you may notice today that the operating system of the little tags has changed. Indeed, a new version2.0.36(build number 2A36) has started to be rolled out by the manufacturer, Apple. We do not know precisely what this version offers, but it is now a habit and previous versions have suffered the same fate.
However, this does not mean that the installation should be ignored, because the developer has probably corrected bugs and closed possible security vulnerabilities. And given the potentially sensitive contact information that AirTags collect, such as yourgeolocation, it is better not to ignore an additional guarantee of protection.
To check that you are up to date
If you now want to check that your own hardware is up to date, the procedure is quite simple and everything happens from the proprietary Locate app. However, you should know that it is not possible to manually update the AirTag; the procedure is automatic and takes placein the background.
Furthermore, this one may beprogressive. If your devices aren't yet eligible for the update, don't panic: it's only a matter of time before they are.
Price and features
AirTags are offered individually forthirty-nine eurosor by four percent and twenty-nine euros in France. It is a removable button battery that powers the device, guaranteeing a certain lifespan which is not always found in the competition.
Hanging an AirTag on your purse or suitcase allows you tofind if lost. To do this, the beacon capitalizes on its Bluetooth chip to connect to other systems equipped with the same component. Among these, we find the iPhone, which also has GPS. This is how the position is then communicated to the user.
Since their release, AirTags have also been criticized in harassment cases where victims were monitored through this means. Butthe practice could fade in the coming months.
