Apple raises a billion to build a new factory in Europe

The5Gseems to be THE niche not to be missed by current mobile processor manufacturers. Among them, Apple is now a benchmark: the company has its own chips, integrated into each iPhone and each iPad. Recently, withthe silicon program, these are even the Mac CPUs that the Apple brand itself designs.

In order to continue its efforts in this area, the company has just announced an investment of one billion euros to construct an additional building in the city ofMunich, where some premises already belong to it. Several hundred employees will join a team already made up of 1,500 people, to work in particular on wireless technologies.

Germany, land of choice for tech

Apple is not the only company to have chosen to bank on the success of our neighbors across the Rhine. Indeed, Elon Musk is currently supervising another major project, this time near Berlin. This is where Tesla built aGigafactoryadditional, supporting the efforts of the one which runs in the Nevada desert to supply an increasingly strong demand. ButCupertino is not very far either.

In reality, this is not the affordable labor that Apple is looking for here. To do this, it rather relies on the experience of its subcontractors based in Asia: TSMC, Foxconn, Pegatron or Wistron to name just a few. No, in Germany, it is in fact the talents that interest Tim Cook's recruiters: the quantity of brainsultra-qualifiedgraduates from surrounding universities are a game-changer.

What is planned

According to Apple's press release making this announcement official, the new Munich factory will be responsible for integrating and optimizing the modems for its products. It will therefore mainly be about internal tests, given that mass production is installed in oriental countries such as China.or India more recently.

It is difficult to know which components will come out of this laboratory more precisely, but the SoC intended for the iPhone 13 may not yet be finished. If we follow the names of previous versions and their performances, then we could be entitled to a processorApple A15 Bionic30-50% faster than the current A14 Bionic in iPhone 12.
