Apple plans ever thinner products for 2025

It seems that the apple brand has launched intoa new race to slim downin anticipation of its future devices which will be released in 2025. Race which should in no way compromise the performance or life expectancy of their batteries. How far will they go in this battle for finesse?

Ultra-thin as a new credo?

For several years, the Cupertino company has instead prioritized optimal functionality and extended battery life, somewhat relegating the thinness of its devices to the background. In 2021, the MacBook Pro 14 saw its thickness increase somewhat in order to accommodate a more powerful battery. The 14-inch model had a 70 Wh battery and its 16-inch big brother was solidly equipped with 100 Wh.

Same story in 2022 withl’Apple Watch. In its Ultra version, its design was more massive, again for the sake of autonomy. These choicesclearly contrasted with Apple's previous philosophy, which aimed to make iPhones and MacBooks as thin as possible, sometimes at the expense of battery and performance.

However, the year 2024 was one of change with the arrival ofl’iPad Pro M4in the month of May. This tablet is simplythe thinnest product ever designed by Apple. 5.6 mm thick for the 11-inch model and 6.2 mm for the 16-inch model. As a reminder, the first iPad, released in 2010, measured more than double with its 13.4 mm. However, the M4 chip is truly a power monster, proving that slimming and performance can coexist harmoniously.

Designs refined for the future

According to information from Mark Gurman, the influential journalist ofBloomberg, the company would be actively working on severalprojects aimed at refining its flagship products, including the MacBook Pro and Apple Watch. Information he shared in his newsletterPower On.Apple would therefore indeed like its products to be the thinnest and lightest in their respective categories.

This incessant quest for finesse will inevitably require other adjustments.Even Apple products do not escape the elementary laws of physics! To maintain both performance and design, other aspects will have to be considered: management of heat dissipation, structural robustness or integration of ever more miniaturized components.

Given the technical prowess represented by the iPad Pro M4 and even that of the latestMacBook Air M3, oYou can only trust Apple's engineering teamsto manage to surprise us again.

  • Apple is reportedly aiming for ultra-thin designs for its 2025 devices, without sacrificing performance or battery life.
  • The iPad Pro M4, released in May 2024, perfectly illustrates this evolution.
  • Mark Gurman reported in his podcastPower Onthat Apple is currently working to refine its MacBook Pro and Apple Watch.
