Apple 3rd quarter results: Turnover and iPhone sales down, what to remember from the figures and information shared

Apple,
company listed on the stock exchange, has the obligation to publishits results
financial statements each quarter
. So this was done yesterday, which allows
everyone to understand the current form of the Apple firm, thanks to
to the figures for the third quarter of 2016, i.e. the months of
July, August and September. Announcing results is an exercise
particularly important, since they account to a certain extent
ofsuccess or name of certain products.

So let's see how Tim Cook's company is doing on the last
quarter:

Turnover still falling

The turnover of the apple firm reached46,9
billion of dollars
over the quarter, with9 billion
net income
. This is worse than last year over the same period
(51.5 billion turnover and 11.1 billion net income). But it's a little better
whatthe results
from the previous quarter
(42.4 billion turnover and 7.8 billion net income).

The gross margin rate also fell from 39.9% last year to
38% this year. Apple ends the quarter with a war chest of 237.6
billion dollars, increased by 6.1 billion over these three months.

This quarter, Apple sold45,51 millions d’iPhone, which
is lower than the 48 million over the same period last year.
But this last big number from 2015 was a significant jump in the figure
sales due to the launch on the Chinese market.

These 45.51 million are still better than last quarter (40.4
million iPhones sold).

Be careful though, this trimester 3 does notnot yet taken into account
iPhone 7 sales
(since launched in September, i.e. at the end of the
period of interest). The impact of the new iPhone 7 will be visible in the results
of the next quarter, with the key Christmas period.

We note that the average selling price of an iPhone has increased from $595
in the previous quarter to 619 this quarter, the reason is related to the product mix
which favored the iPhone SE just released earlier in the year.

iPad and Mac

In a sluggish tablet market, Apple sold this quarter
9,28 millions d’iPad. It's slightly worse than the year
last over the same period.

On the Mac side, in the absence of new features (which we should see soon), it's
the same phenomenon which is emerging, with4.89 million Macs
sold
, compared to 5.7 last year.

Others

For the so-called “Other” product category at Apple, which includes
Apple Watch, iPod, Apple TV and Beats accessories, it's close to
20% less turnover from one year to the next. In
on the other hand, the category of “Services”, which includes in particularApple
Pay
but also the App Store and iTunes, is up24% in
income term
. The App Store posts its fourth quarter
consecutive increase, with growth of 43%.

But still...

Tim Cook insisted that Apple managed to increase its sales
in 33 countries out of the 40 in which the brand is present. The number
for example, fell by 7% in America and 30% in China, but
was counterbalanced by aconsiderable increase in iPhone sales
50% in India
.

International sales (excluding the US) now represent 62% of
turnover for the quarter for Apple.

But that's not all and the Apple manager indicated that they counted
more former Android users switching to iPhone than ever before
and the demand for the iPhone 7 is very satisfactory, it exceeds
still production capacity. When asked about Apple's ability to
meet demand during the crucial end-of-year period, Tim Cook
indicated that on the iPhone 7 this would be the case, but that it could not be
certain on the iPhone 7 Plus (they were obviously wrong, underestimating
sales forecasts for this model).

Finally, we must not forget that this quarter does not take into account the
release of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, nor that of the new Apple Watch Series 1 and
2. iPhone sales should logically increase in the last quarter
of the year (October, November December) following the September keynote.

Likewise, the range of Macs which should be refreshed from
tomorrow during a keynote should also see a boost in terms of
sales in the coming months. Apple's CFO said
good news was coming on this front.

We will have to wait to know the results for the next quarter in order to
to have an indicator of the success of the iPhone 7 in particular and the health of
l’Apple Watch.
