Apple no longer signs iOS 16 and makes the iPhone 6 obsolete

In quick succession this week, Apple has taken two important steps towards the future. On the one hand, the Californian firm hasstopped signing a first version of iOS 16. On the other hand, one of its most important iPhone models in its history isbecome a vintage product.

First, you should know that for a few hours, it has no longer been possible to install iOS 16 on your machine. Same for iOS 16.0.1. Indeed, Apple has stopped supporting these two versions of iOS 16. To date, the only version of the new iPhone software available to everyone isiOS 16.0.2. This update fixesmany bugs, it is obviously advisable to install it on your machine without delay.

Please note, however, that if you have already installed iOS 16.0.1, it is now no longer possible to go back to iOS 16.0 or even iOS 16.0.1. Likewise, if you have not yet installed iOS 16 and have an iPhone running an old version of iOS, iOS 15 for example, the only version of iOS 16 offered to you to date is iOS 16.0.2. Provided, however, thatyour Apple smartphone supports iOS 16.

iPhone 6: a now “vintage” Apple product

Another popular product that is more supported, and not the least, is the iPhone 6. The latter is now placed in the “vintage” category.at Apple. This is also the case for the iPhone 6 Plus.

Products are listed “vintage” 5 years after the last year of sale in the Apple Store. They are then listed “obsolete” 7 years after the last year of sale in the Apple Store.

If for “vintage” products, Apple still operates an after-sales service and supplies repair parts to authorized resellers, for obsolete products, it is necessary to rely entirely on third-party repairers and parts obtained by other routes.

Remember that the iPhone was released in 2014. It marked its time with amajor design changecompared to the previous generation, the iPhone 5s, with a much larger case and screen.

And above all, for the first time, the iPhone was available in an even more massive version, earning the “Plus” label. This dual iPhone pattern, one normal, the other “Plus”, continued with the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 8. Then the “Plus” disappeared, replaced by the “Max” , before returning this year with the iPhone 14!

It goes to show that “nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”.
