The new Big Sur version of macOS, presented at the WWDC Keynote last June, has been awaited for several weeks in final version. But it would possibly not have a version 11.0.0 and would be released directly in 11.0.1. Indeed, a latest versionRelease Candidatefor developers has just been released formacOS 11.0.1.
However, the next Apple presentation scheduled for next Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. French time, should focus on new Macs,as seen there. It would then be possible that Apple releases the final version of macOS Big Sur in parallel, in 11.0.1. Version 11.0.0 having already been put aside without ever seeing the light of day.
This would be the first time that a major macOS update has appeared so late in the year. But in 2020, because of the coronavirus pandemic, it was difficult for tech companies to maintain their usual schedule. The iPhone Keynote usually taking place in September this time took place in October.
And even if November conferences are not rare for Apple, and in fact often dedicated to new Macs, waiting so long before releasing a new major version of macOS is an exception at this stage.
In any case, this has the advantage of giving developers a little more time to further refine their apps and guarantee them the most stable operation possible with the new OS for Mac computers.
