Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of brand services, recently took the stage to give his views onthe rivalry between Apple Music and Spotify. As might be expected, he has a very strong opinion on the matter. In an interview for the SuperSaf YouTube channel, he notably made the list (non-exhaustive and slightly partisan)differences between the two music streaming services.
He began his argument with the question of catalogs, often put forward by applications. “Everyone has pretty much the same songs,” he judges. But according to him, the difference is mainly made at the level of technical innovations. Apple Music has in fact introduced the “surround” sound for some time. A real« historical change »for the music industry according to Cue.
During the interview, he notably returned to the recent work of the Apple Music teams around classical music. “We’re terrible at this genre,” Cue said. In order to make the user experience better, Apple chose a few months ago to launch a completely separate application,Apple Classical.
Apple Music wants to keep a human side
In the rest of his argument, Eddy Cue defended the choices made by his team around Apple Music. In particular, he defendscreations “ human »rather than algorithmic. Here he puts the two main music streaming services into contradiction. Spotify is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence to offer a unique and ultra-personalized user experience.
For its part, Apple wants to take the other side of the coin. The Apple brand is not trying to fight by introducing ever more artificial intelligence into its algorithms. On the contrary, it offers playlists and live radio stations managed by live presenters. A difference that makesthe uniqueness of Apple Musicaccording to Eddy Cue.
