Good news:iOS 13.4is out! The latest version of Apple's operating system brings, as usual, itsbatch of changes, only available in beta at the moment. One of them therefore concerns forgetful drivers who tend to lose their keys a little too often, a real problemalready attacked by Volkswagen and Siri.
CarKeywould allow you to open the doors of a car without having to take out your keychain, thanks to NFC. As a reminder, this is a communication technology similar to Bluetooth in principle, but which works with greater proximity between devices, and which isfor example used to buy a ticket with Pay on the London Underground.
Who will be able to use Apple CarKey?
If a user decides to use CarKey, they will then have the possibility of sharing access rights with loved ones: no need to make a duplicate for each person. The only prerequisite is to go through the applicationWalletto generate and use these virtual keys, like what is already done with bank cards. And the best part is that the iPhone doesn't even need to be turned on!
For the moment, this tool is therefore only reserved for early adopters. Since no manufacturer has yet announced compatibility, we will probably have to wait for the public release of iOS 14 to find out which car models are eligible. Finally, know that theApple Watch whose OS is also updatedis also expected to take advantage of this option: a simple movement of the wrist would then allow access to the passenger compartment.

Thesecond beta version iOS 13.4contains additional data on how CarKey works. First, different keys could be generated for the same vehicle. And these will be temporary or permanent, depending on the user's choice.
In addition, a CarKey can beshared with one of his contacts via iMessage, as shown in the following text found in the iOS code:
CarKey is not available in group conversations. You can send CarKey in conversations with an individual.
On the key receiver side, all you have to do is save it in Wallet and then you can use the iPhone or watch as a solution for unlocking the linked vehicle, via NFC.
This CarKey functionality should probably be based on UWB technology, currently exclusive to the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. It is therefore not certain at this stage that all iPhones and Apple Watches with NFC are there. In addition to this, vehicles must also be compatible, with, among other things, the integration of an NFC chip supporting locking or unlocking via Bluetooth.
Apple is likely to say more about CarKey when it releases the consumer version of iOS 13.4, possibly theMarch 31as part of aKeynote, still hypothetical, let us remember.
