Apple Vision Pro: it works with all Macs (or almost)

Apple has just launched its Vision Pro this Friday. Presented as the first space computer in the history of the brand, the device is intended to be autonomous and capable of operating for hours without connecting to any other device. But the Vision Pro also works very well when paired with another Apple product.

In particular, it is possible to use it as a secondary screen on a Mac. If this functionality should make it easier to use Macs in everyday life, Apple has posed some barriers to the development of this technology. Indeed, the Apple Vision Pro can also display the screen of a Mac withan Apple Silicon chipthan an Intel chip in a huge virtual window.

But be careful all the same, the chip of your Mac will have a big impact on the performance of this option. As Apple explains in a support document, the virtual display functionality is intended to be as universal as possible. However, the rendering is not the same depending on the computer in front of us.

Apple details that a Vision Pro connected to an Apple Silicon Mac will have the capacity to display a window in 4K. If you pair the mixed reality headset with an older Apple computer, having an Intel chip at its heart, the Apple brand promises a slightly lower resolution, in 3K.

Sonoma is in demand

In addition to this constrainthardware,Apple explains that Macs that will have access to this feature must run undermacOS Sonoma, the latest version of the operating system for Apple brand computers.

The list of devices withan Intel chipwhich are compatible with the virtual display functionality of the Vision Pro is therefore reduced to the list of Apple computers which can receive the macOS Sonoma update.
