  • WWDC was an opportunity to discover Apple's Vision Pro VR headset
  • Three computers were also released: Mac Pro, Mac Studio and 15-inch MacBook Air
  • Apple also revealed updates to macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10, iPadOS 17 and iOS 17

The Worldwide Developer Conference ends today and will have been an opportunity to discover many new features. In this overview, we come back to the main ones in our opinion, and to the technical sheets of the new computers. Here we go.

1 – The Vision Pro replaces your MacBook

The star of WWDC 2023 was obviously the Reality Pro. This mixed reality headset aims to replace your computer, and manyappsalready available on Mac are compatible like FaceTime, Keynote and Safari. It is possible to overlay the operating system with the user's environment thanks to the transparency of the screen, which is adjusted using theDigital Crown.

The Vision Pro will be available in 2024,maybequite late in France. On the technical sheet side, the device has an M2 chip and another proprietary processor and could, according to the manufacturer, stay on for up to two hours straight thanks to its battery. This is connected to the frame by a homemade cable, which makes the latter lighter to wear.

Price: $3,499 in the United States, still unknown in France.

2 – iOS 17 and its key new features

Of course, like every year, Apple also took advantage of WWDC to unveil a new version of its number one mobile operating system. Say hello to iOS 17. On the menu with this version, we will especially rememberNameDrop, which allows you to share your contact details with a friend in the blink of an eye, or even the arrival ofwidgetsmuch more interactive on the home screen.

At the same time, Apple also announced a new app:Journal. This connects to other native iPhone platforms such as Podcasts or Photos, in order to record all the user's actions carried out during the day. The only downside, and not the least: several mobile models are not eligible for the installation of iOS 17, such as the first generation iPhone SE and the iPhone 8 Plus.

3 – Finally a large, affordable MacBook!

With this, Apple also announced its first ever 15.3-inch MacBook Air. The device uses the design codes of the small model, including the notch at the top but also and above all a touchpad with the same proportions compared to that of the chassis. The result is a portable workstation with1 599 eurosonly, while the MacBook Air M1 sees its price drop by 200 euros.

The 15-inch MacBook Air is powered by an M2 chip with the graphics card in maximum configuration, that is to say composed of ten cores. The RAM reaches up to twenty-four gigabytes depending on the options chosen when ordering, and the machine is obviously compatible with macOS Sonoma, the latest edition of the program for hardware computers just released (in beta) too.

4 – Intel on Mac, it’s over

Another announcement: as promised by their brand (and with a little delay), Apple silicon chips are now available on all Macs, instead of previous Intel motherboards. It is the new Mac Pro which completes the transition, equipped with aM2 Ultradoped with steroids. The behemoth is sold in rack or tower form.

During WWDC, Apple also announced aMac Studio. Here, the performances are quite similar overall, but the central unit is also available with an M2 Max chip for those who find the M2 Ultra version too expensive. To this, you will need to add up to 192 GB of RAM and 8 TB of internal storage. Compatibility with macOS Sonoma in addition, of course, as soon as the final version is released this fall.

5 – watchOS 10

Finally, let's talk about the case of watchOS 10, a platform this time intended, as its name suggests, for connected watches from Cupertino. This update is the most important since the start of these connected objects in 2015, with a wholenew design. The interface has notably been revisited for the Stock Market, Home, Clocks and Maps apps.

Like its sister for smartphones, the update to watchOS 10 will be released this fall in final version. THEcyclistswill also be delighted to discover serious improvements such as integration withLive Activitieson the iPhone or even cycling routes on Apple Maps. Wearables also now estimate the “maximum intensity a person can maintain cycling for an hour“.
