iOS 14.5: the seventh (public) beta is here

April 9, 2021 Update: Public Betas Available

A few hours ago, Apple released new betas foriOS 14.5and the other OS that areiPadOS 14.5,watchOS 7.4ettvOS 14.5.

This new round of updates followsthe one from last week, which saw the release of the sixth betas of iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, watchOS 7.4 and macOS 11.3 more recently.

iOS 14.5 in beta 7, compared to previous beta versions, does not seem to bring any notable changes. These would mainly be bug fixes and security improvements. In any case, the list of new features that iOS 14.5 would include is already quite long,to be found there. In particular, there are the following changes:

  • support for Xbox Series and PS5 controllers
  • mandatory request for cross-app ad tracking
  • 5G dual-SIM support on iPhone
  • iPhone unlocking possible while wearing a mask (and an Apple Watch)
  • 217 new emojis
  • new action in Shortcuts to force 4G or 5G
  • various improvements to the Podcasts app

iOS 14.5 update should arrive in final version soon, possibly next week, if not around mid-April.
