The “phone” application completely changes with iOS 18.1

Apple has just released the first version of the iOS 18.1 beta. This version, dedicated to developers, is the first to integrate Apple Intelligence intoiPhone operating system(but also iPads with iPadOS 18.1 and Macs with macOS Sequoia 15.1).

The functionality, presented last June during the WWDC opening conference, is Apple's big new feature this year. It allows the integration of artificial intelligence tools. Among the features presented, some are already present in the update. Others are still under development internally. They may join the beta later in the year, or be launched by Apple during the year 2025.

Phone: the application turns to AI

The integration of artificial intelligence may seem gimmicky and superfluous in certain uses. Indeed, AI does not always make it possible to transform an application, but it offers several solutions to facilitate the user experience. Among Apple's good ideas with iOS 18,the Phone appbenefits from very good AI integration.

Concretely, Apple Intelligence will now make it possible to automatically record and transcribe phone calls. During a call, a new record button will appear on the phone screen. Once enabled, this option will start a voice note. When the call ends, it will be recorded in the iPhone's “Notes” application.

Once recorded, the voice note will benefit from another Apple Intelligence feature, automatic transcription. The recording will therefore be translated by the iPhone into written text. A very interesting option that could be useful for millions of people around the world during an important phone call that you want to keep records of.

iOS 18: release dates

The release date of iOS 18 is not yet known but the update should logically arrive on our iPhones during the month of September.A recent report from the Bloomberg news agencysuggests iPhone 16s should arrive beforeiOS 18.1and the main software releases of the year.
